Transitional Kindergarten at CVESD

The California Kindergarten Readiness Act established a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program for children who miss the September 1 birth date cutoff to enroll in Kindergarten. TK is a high quality program between preschool and Kindergarten and it is designed for younger students to engage in early academic learning experiences designed to promote success in Kindergarten and beyond. Our goal is to bring TK to every CVESD site by the school year of 2025-2026.

We offer a full-day TK program at most of our sites, with the exception of Rosebank, Valle Lindo, and Silverwing elementary schools. Students in the program complete a full year in TK and then a full year in regular kindergarten before moving on to first grade. Registration for 2024-25 is currently underway.
